Saint Micah Foretells the Significance of Bethlehem

Micah prophesied about 700 years before Jesus was born and pointed to Bethlehem as a place from which a ruler would come.

When King Herod was unnerved by the Magi, the chief priests and scribes told the anxious king about this prophecy of Micah.  (Mt. 2:6)

But you, Bethlehem-Ephrathah,
too small to be among the clans of Judah,
From you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel.

                                                - Micah 5:1

Feast Day of Saint Micah:  December 21

  1. Do you have birth / death dates for St Micah? I can't find anything about him except for Micah of Radonezh, and I think he's only in the Orthodox church. My son is named Micah and is very interested in having him be his patron saint for 1st Communion.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Rene' ... Based on the kings listed in Micah 1:1, it is likely that he prophesied near the years 742-687 B.C. But, I couldn't tell you exact birth or death dates. It is hard to find any information on St. Micah (the prophet), but he is indeed in the Roman Martyrology.
You can find more information on him in "More Saints of the Bible": http://goo.gl/650c73

A wonderful saint and role model indeed:

Only to do the right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God. ~St. Micah (6:8b)

      Hope this helps!
