The Sainted Mother and Seven Sons ~ Faith and Courage to the Death

During the same time frame of Saint Eleazar’s martyrdom (about 170 B.C.), King Antiochus IV of Syria personally tried to pressure a mother and her seven sons into abandoning the Jewish Faith.  After intense resistance from the family, the King had the mother watch her sons - one at a time - undergo severe torture.  The brutal king then murdered the mother at the end.

"We are ready to die rather than transgress the laws of our ancestors."
