Saint Gideon ~ A Rather Hesitant Warrior-Saint

Gideon and His Army of 300 Saving Israel
Gideon was called sometime during the period of the Judges (1200 – 1030 B.C.).  God asked him to save the Israelites from fierce oppression from the Midianites.  But, Gideon was rather incredulous.  He felt he was too insignificant of a person to take on such a chore; so he asked for a sign from the angel who spoke with him.
“… give me a sign …”
-St. Gideon (Judges 6:17)

The Signs:
1) The Angel waited for Gideon when he went to get his offering. (Judges 6: 18)
2) The Angel of the God set some cakes and meat on fire with the touch of his staff. (Judges 6: 21)
3) Woolen fleece set on the ground became wet overnight, while the rest of the ground stayed dry. (Judges 6:38)
4) Woolen fleece set on the ground stayed dry overnight, while the rest of the ground was wet.  (Judges 6:40)

The Feast of Saint Gideon is September 26.
