While working on my books (especially the second one), I was struck at how many Saints of the Bible there are with names beginning with the letter E ...

St. Ezekiel

The “X” was the Hebrew letter “taw,” which was shaped like a cross.




St. Ezra

St. Ezra helped the Judahites to get off to a strong new beginning by encouraging them to keep God in their lives after they completed their exile in Babylonia and returned to Jerusalem.

Now when the seventh month came, the whole people gathered as one man in the open space before the Water Gate, and they called upon Ezra the scribe to bring forth the book of the law of Moses which the LORD prescribed for Israel.

St. Eleazar
August 1

Although 2 Maccabees is placed 21st out of the 46 Old Testament books, chronologically speaking, it was written close to the end of the Old Testament era, about 170 years before the time of Christ.  It is in this Biblical book that you can find the story of St. Eleazar, the brave Jewish man who remained loyal to God despite enormous outside pressures.

… and so he (Eleazar) declared that above all he would be loyal to the holy laws given by God.
