A Family Jesus Liked to Visit
These three siblings played some important roles in the life of Jesus.  They lived in Bethany, which was (is) about two miles from Jerusalem.  Jesus evidently found comfort in their home and in the travel-by-foot days, this was probably a perfect distance for Jesus to get some quiet time away.

A New-ish Shared Feast Day
For a long time, these three sibling saint had different feast days, however, in the 2004 Roman Martyrology, they have all been put on the same date.  St. Lazarus used to have December 17 as his feast day (many resources that have not yet had a chance to update the changes still recognize this date), and Mary of Bethany for many years was thought to be the same as Mary Magdalene, so was honored on July 22.  She is now considered to be a separate person (although, many still argue that she is indeed the same as Mary Magdalene ... I guess when we get to heaven, we'll find out for sure).  And Martha kept the same date ... July 29 ... her siblings' feast dates were moved to share with hers.  Kind of a nice family-like concept!
