6 Things to Know About the Married Couple, Saints Aquila and Priscilla

St. Aquila & St. Priscilla with St. Paul
... for they were tentmakers by trade.  Acts 18:4

July 8 honors a wonderful New Testament married couple ... Saints Priscilla and Aquila.  This couple was very helpful to the missionary works of Paul and did much to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ.  They often get overlooked in the Bible; their short vignettes are spread out within Paul's letters.  But with a bit of effort and thought, it is not too difficult to sense the goodness of this couple and find great Christian inspiration through their works and faith:

1 - Paul Meets Aquila and Priscilla in Corinth
After this he left Athens and went to Corinth.  There he met a a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with hes wife Priscilla because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. He went to visit them and because they he practiced the same trade, stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade.  ~ Acts 18:1-4

2 - Paul, Priscilla, and Aquila Sail to Ephesus Together
Paul remained for quite some time, and after saying farewell to the brothers he sailed for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila.  When they reached Ephesus, he left them there.   ~ Acts 18:18a,19a

3 - Priscilla and Aquila Help Apollos
A Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, an eloquent speaker, arrived in Ephesus.  He was an authority on the scriptures.  He had been instructed in the Way of the Lord and, with ardent spirit, spoke and taught accurately about Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.  He began to speak boldly in the synagogue; but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the Way [of god] more accurately.     ~ Acts 18:24-26

4 - Paul Asks the Romans to Greet Prisca (Priscilla) and Aquila
Evidently, Priscilla and Aquila at some point returned to Rome ... where they had traveled from when they first met Paul in Corinth:
Greet Prisca and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I am grateful but also all the churches of the Gentiles; greet also the church at their house.     ~ Romans 16:3-5

5 - Aquila Priscilla are with Paul in Ephesus
The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Priscilla greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house.   ~ 1 Corinthians 16:19

6 - Paul Asked Timothy to Greet Priscilla and Aquila:
Greet Priscilla and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus.  ~ 2 Timothy 4:19
